In a pilot project in Bavaria the winter road clearance service is to become more environmentally friendly by using recycled salt. Instead of specially produced brine, leftover saltwater from the Develey Company is used.
The gherkin producer based in the district of Dingolfing-Landau supplied road maintenance depots within a radius of 100 kilometers. 700 tons of salt and almost five million liters of water will be saved this winter. The Minister of Transport said: "A cool story".
If the process proves successful, other food producers will follow. Talks are already underway with canners in other Bavarian districts….
